Year 9 trip to Leicester University DNA workshop
Our year 9 students recently participated in science experiments at the home of genetics, Leicester University.
Students were given an inspiring, real university-style lecture on how genetic fingerprinting was discovered in Leicester, and how it is used to solve murder cases and paternity disputes. They also found out at what DNA actually is. This was followed by many A level and degree level science investigations such as 'gel electrophoresis' and 'adult cell cloning' which our students did exceptionally well in! It was great preparation for higher education and a future in science.
