Generating electricity at the wind turbine challenge
On Tuesday 6 December, year 7 students took part in a First Edition energy workshop. The workshop’s learning objectives included understanding the global energy challenge, the pros and cons of different energy technologies, and developing hands-on practical skills.
We work closely with educational charity the Engineering Development Trust (EDT), to encourage our students to learn more about and consider careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) related industries.
As well as learning about different sources and uses of energy, the ‘design, build and test’ wind turbine challenge helped to develop personal skills such as team work, communication, time management, creativity and problem solving. Working in teams, the students were asked to design and build the most effective structure for their wind turbine to generate the highest output on linked voltmeters.
