Importance of sleep hygiene
According to the NHS, teenagers should have between 8-10 hours’ sleep a night. Sleep is essential to help teens maintain physical and emotional health, whilst enhancing school performance.
Some of the key benefits of creating a regular routine include:
- Prmotes mood regulation
- Increases and regulates energy levels
- Stress reductin
- Bosts immune system
- Helps maintain cncentration levels
To get a good sleep routine in place try out a few of the tips below:
- Have a regular time that you go to bed and stick to it as much as you can
- Have a cut off from screen time at least 1 hour before bed
- Make your room sleep friendly
- If possible do your work in a different room from your bedroom
- Organise your day so you are not up late completing last minute pieces of work
- Exercise regularly as this can promote sleep
- Cut out caffeinated drinks a few hours before you are due to go bed
