Travel and Tourism
In the BTEC Tech Award for Travel and Tourism, there are 3 components of study.
Component 1: Travel and Tourism Organisations and Destinations
Learn about the different professions in the travel and tourism industry, how technology has changed the industry over the years and how companies compete with each other for business. This component is assessed through coursework and will contribute 30% of the final grade at the end of year 11.
Component 2: Customer Needs in Travel and Tourism
In this component you will learn about how companies make decisions about what to offer their customers, how the research is conducted and what methods are used to gain this information. During this coursework assessment you will be required to plan a holiday to meet a brief given by the exam board. You will need to meet their needs and preferences of location and activities whilst working within a budget. This component is assessed through coursework and will contribute 30% of the final grade at the end of year 11.
Component 3: Influences on Global Travel and Tourism
The final component of the course is exam-based and will make up the remaining 40% of the final grade. Students will learn about all the different factors that can influence the travel and tourism industry. This includes political decisions, natural disasters, extreme weather, safety concerns and how the media can influence trends in the travel and tourism industry affecting different areas of the world.
This qualification introduces you to the world of travel and tourism, giving you the opportunity to develop the skills required. You will explore some of the key areas within the sector, including accommodation, tourism development and promotion, transport and visitor attractions. You will investigate the importance of travel and tourism to the UK and how market research is used within the industry.
This course can lead to progression to further study this sector at level 3 through a vocational qualification such as a BTEC National in Travel and Tourism, or an apprenticeship in either travel and tourism or hospitality, leading to a role within the travel or hospitality industries.
